Give A Shoebox For Christmas... really

One of the things that most excites me about the Christmas season is having a great excuse to do for others.. During the normal year - giving and doing for others may make the person receiving - feel bad..... A person's pride may be get battered and that is something I never would want to do... but during the Christmas season people in need tend to be more apt to receive..... does that make sense?

This Sunday I am getting together with my friends.... my sister... and we are stuffing tube socks.. Yes, you heard that right - we are stuffing brand new tube socks with water and pop tarts - then we will deliver them to a homeless shelter in Orange County.... I love this kind of thing....

You know, you could do something special too this Christmas season that is if don't already have something lined up... Operation Christmas Child -
also known as the shoebox ministry. This is an incredible way to bring joy to a child that would not being celebrating Christmas any other way.. The boxes go all over the world.

The boxes are so easy to put together - you can use a shoebox you already have handy or you can go to almost any Christian church and they will probably have boxes for you specially designed for this ministry.

Here's what you do:

Get a standard sized SHOE BOX or small plastic container
you can wrap the lid if you like
Choose a boy or girl and what age 2-4, 5-9, 10-14
Fill with age appropriate gifts (no liquids - please)
Donate $7 or more for shipping and expense
Place a large rubber band around the box.

Target has some great ideas there - I usually put a markers, pads, toothpaste, a battery operated toothbrush, stickers, hard candy, a small stuffed animal, and lots of little toys...

Go to Samaritan's Purse to find a drop off location near you.

Kelly's Idea #122509 - Give a Shoebox filled with goodies to a child in a faraway land.

This is a perfect way for the kids in the family to help out. Cheap, easy, and it teaches them the sense of giving.

Add our prayers too! Please tell her that we will be asking God to guide the hands that work on her, to give them skill and wisdom, for her complete healing, for strength for her family, and for her pain to be eased.
Love in Christ,
J.

I saw your prayer request a few weeks ago, and I remembered her name was Debbie (that part was easy) and she was having brain surgery...but for the life of me I couldn't remember who posted it! So glad I found it. She is at the top of my list for prayer. Please keep us updated!

Hi, Kelly! Jo here--what a wonderful idea!

I just wanted to stop by and say hello--after my long absence, courtesy of my sick PC.

I--very belatedly--finally picked up the blog award you were so kind as to bestow upon me way back when.

Thank you so much for that! :)

I've missed reading up on you...and hope this finds you happy and well.

Just wanted to send some blog love your way and I will be doing the shoebox idea, too! Wonderful way to spread Christmas cheer--thank you for reminding us of the true spirit of Christmas.

Peace, love and happiness,
~Jo

Hi, Kelly! You're a gal after my own heart!

Have a great time decorating for the season--it's a lot of fun unwrapping things and discovering something you forgot you had, isn't it?

I'm a snowman gal myself and, therefore, my home is in snowman overload--but I sure do enjoy those little guys and--with the exception of my family and their good health, of course--very little lifts my heart and spirit like finding all my little snow guys a well placed home on my mantle or end table.

I found most of my decorations from 'Big Lots' and even some of the dollar stores.

Please post pictures when you're all done with your masterpiece--the blog-verse deserves to see your art and rejoice and celebrate with you.

Many blessings to you and yours this season.

Peace, love and happiness,
~Jo
